COVER LETTER/RAISING SUPPORT

To: Joel's Place Friends
RE: Ignite Alaska

Dear Friends,

“Ignite Alaska” to be held May 29-30th will spark the hearts of youth to be driven by an unquenchable passion to see their generation take action to live for a purpose. We are working now to confirm; FireFlight, they debuted nationally with 2006’s The Healing of Harms (Flicker Records) which delivered two No. 1 rock singles “You Decide” and “Waiting.” Thousand Foot Krutch, a Canadian based Christian rock band who recently released their fifth album, The Flame in All of Us (2007). They will be joined in concert with Hip Hop rap artist , Manafest. The third band is RED, nominated for their current music video, Already Over, now airing on MTV2, recently became the #1 most streamed music video. We will also have Fairbanks band, Nitengale, now touring from Nashville. For more up to date information check the blog at www.ignitealaska.blogspot.com.

While “Ignite Alaska” is a faith based youth event, we believe that the concerts and inspirational speakers will appeal to young people from diverse backgrounds. Our intention is to keep the event affordable with tickets for the weekend to be less than $50 per person. We are actively pursuing corporate funding for the event, and are budgeting about $80,000 in event expenses. We hope to attract 2500 young people to the event.

In addition to these events, we will have merchandise tables for the bands and information booths for agencies such as Compassion International, local youth ministries and service providers including Thirst, Presbyterian Hospitality House and Young Life. Random People Who Care will also be available to provide peer counseling for young people struggling with depression and suicide.

Proceeds from “Ignite Alaska” will support the programs of Joel’s Place Indoor Skate Park and Youth center. Young people ages 10-20 will continue to be served with love and commitment by the staff and volunteers who know the power of positive youth development. Our programs:

© Indoor Skate Park for skateboarding and BMX riding.
© Drop-in Youth Center open 50 hours a week with no charge to the young people, activities include pool, foos ball, video game room, table games, craft club and WiFi internet.
© Independent Youth Services for young people living on their own, including showers, personal products, clothing and food.
© Los Niño’s Café providing after school snacks, free and low cost snacks and dinner every evening.
© Alaska Summer Food Service Program for Children, free lunch and snack five days a week for all children regardless of income, race, gender or religion. The SFSP is a focus for the Joel’s Place Summer of Service National AmeriCorps program.
© Joel's Place AmeriCorps SOS members serve at community based non profits in Fairbanks and North Pole.
© Bone Builder’s Backpacks for children unable to eat free school lunch in the summer. We have served over 100 children a year since 2002 with free kid friendly snack food picked up once a week.

Thank you for your consideration in lighting a flame of hope in Fairbanks area young people!

Sincerely,

Linda Setterberg, Executive Director
